Artist Statement
In my work, I use the human form and symbols juxtaposed to create other meanings. The human figure posed just so expresses emotions and states of being. Poses and expressions of the figure, in relation to the objects or other figures around them, become representations of ideas and narratives.

Archetypes, myths and primitive laws of magic interest me. Two types are Sympathetic Magic and Contagious Magic. In Sympathetic (or imitative) magic, the result becomes or resembles its cause (i.e. like affects like) and in Contagious magic, things that once were in contact still affect each other after the physical contact is broken.

My memories and dreams of different events in history or my own life provide the subject matter for my work. I am interested in how memories are created and stored, and how these memories change and are malleable depending on one’s mood and environment.

Artist Biography
Daved Ferrell graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.F.A. in painting. He earned his second B.F.A in printmaking from the University of Washington.

Daved is a member of the Seattle Print Arts. He volunteers for the Artist Trust and in the past has volunteered for the Northwest Bookfest on the Book Arts committee.

Drawing from twelve years of printmaking and book arts practice, Daved teaches and demonstrates fine art bookmaking and printmaking techniques. He has given classes and demonstrations at Seattle Artist Supply, Northwest Bookfest and the Sev Shoon Arts Center. He also tutors one-on-one fine art book making skills and printmaking techniques.

A resourceful problem solver, Daved occasionally designs and builds his own studio equipment, such as his dryer box for photo-emulsion-covered screens. This box is vented and has a fan to facilitate drying the screens with out exposing them to any light. As a side note, he will be further customizing the top of this box with a vacuum press. See the studio page for photos of Daved's studio and equipment.

Daved lives in Seattle with his wife and three cats. He is also an amateur boat builder and enjoys knitting when he has free time.
